Test Format – Reading

60 minutes

The Reading segment contains 40 questions that are intended to assess a variety of reading abilities. Reading for gist, key ideas, detail, skimming, understanding rational argument, and recognising writers’ views, attitudes, and intent are some examples.

The IELTS Academic examination consists of three long texts ranging from informative and factual to discursive and theoretical in nature. These quotations come from books, journals, magazines, and newspapers. They were chosen for a non-specialist audience, but they are also suitable for students starting university courses or pursuing professional registration.
